The team received state awards for promoting Lithuania’s name and their merits to sports, their will and determination, the president said in a decree.
“By helping each other, being united and determined basketball players, you won the title of European vice-champions. Your example inspires the whole of Lithuania to pool its efforts and win,” Grybauskaitė said in a press release circulated by the President’s Office.
The team presented her with a basketball signed by all team members and a fan scarf.
Grybauskaitė, who watched the championship’s final match between Lithuania and Spain in the French city of Lille, wished all players a successful club season and a superb Olympics 2016, which the top two European teams automatically qualified for.
