Lithuanian president: Estonia provides example on strengthening military capabilities

According to Lithuania’s leader, Estonia is an example of strengthening military capabilities. Estonia currently is the only Baltic nation whose national defence funding amounts to 2 percent of the GDP. Estonia has preserved a mixed force structure of conscripts and regular troops, has a successfully functioning system of drafting. As many as 94 percent of Estonians support conscripts.

During their meeting, the officials also discussed energy security in the region. In the view of Grybauskaitė, the Baltic States’ integration into the EU’s energy market remains one of the top priorities.

While speaking about Ukraine with the Lithuanian president, Estonian PM Roivas said that if Russia does not comply with the Minsk agreements new sanctions should be imposed, the press service of the Estonian Government said.

“The so-called false peace should not lull us into complacency. The conflict can be considered solved only when Ukraine has gained independence and complete control over its territory,” Roivas noted.

According to Roivas, we must do everything to ensure that Russia does not achieve its will in Ukraine.
