Dalia Grybauskaitė/ DELFI / Šarūnas Mažeika
Speaking during a meeting with Ukraine’s President Petro Poroshenko in the framework of the EU summit in Brussels on Saturday evening, Grybauskaitė said Lithuania will raise the Ukraine issue during the next week’s meeting with US President Barack Obama and the NATO summit in Wales.
“The leader expressed Lithuania’s support for the European reforms implemented in Ukraine, to its sovereignty and territorial integrity,” reads a press release circulated by the President’s Office.
Grybauskaitė said that it was not only the fate of Ukraine that was being decided in that country but also the fate of the whole of Europe. She further underlined that it was critically important to ratify the Ukraine-EU association agreement before the end of September and to continue the consistent implementation of democratic reforms.
Lithuania contributes to alleviating the humanitarian situation in Ukraine: it has already allocated a total of 420,000 litas (EUR 121,800) in assistance and 150,000 litas for the medical treatment of Ukrainians.
