Rowers Milda Valčiukaitė and Donata Vištartaitė won Olympic bronze in the Women’s Double Sculls event. Their stay in Brazil started off less successfully, however, when they were robbed of a substantial sum of money and their perfumes in the Olympic village.
“I made a promise and now have to keep it. I had promised to buy perfume to the Lithuanian rowing duo Milda and Donata, if they win medals. The day of reckoning has come :),” Grybauskaitė said on her Facebook feed, also posting a photograph from the President’s Office, with the two Lithuanian athletes holding the president’s presents.
In all, Lithuanian athletes won medals in four events of the Rio de Janeiro Olympic Games.
