In the president’s words, a free and democratic Ukraine is an interest of the whole Europe, therefore, the upcoming parliamentary elections should proceed without any external interference and provocations, the President’s Office said.
Grybauskaitė underlined that elections in the entire territory of Ukraine, including Donetsk and Luhansk regions, must take place in accordance with Ukrainian law.
“Arbitrarily held elections will be deemed unlawful and their results will not be recognized,” reads the press release.
The Lithuanian head-of-state noted that it was particularly important to ensure the renewal of gas supplies to Ukraine.
EU leaders also exchanged views on the truce in eastern Ukraine, emphasizing that Russia must abide by agreements reached in Minsk. Due to obvious ceasefire breaches by Moscow, there is no ground for changing the sanction regime in respect to Russia.
