Lithuanian prosecutors bring corruption suspicions against basketball federation

According to the press release, the suspicions were brought after the federation used nearly 793,000 euros received from the Panevėžys City Municipality’s budget possibly by fraud.

On Monday, suspicions were brought against the federation’s former secretary general, other employees of the federation, former Panevėžys mayor, his former assistant and two employees of the municipality.

The Panevėžys bureau of the Special Investigation Service opened the probe back in May 2012, scrutinizing the signing of a 2.5 million litas (EUR 725,000) contract between Panevėžys City Municipality and the Lithuanian Basketball Federation on the organization of EuroBasket 2011 matches and basketball promotion program in the city.
