“The two issues will top the agenda of the meeting,”Arnoldas Pikžirnis, foreign policy adviser to the Lithuanian prime minister, told BNS on the eve of the visit.
In his words, the two ministers will discuss the Lithuania-Sweden power interconnection NordBalt and the Lithuanian liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal, as well as threats in light of construction of the nuclear power plant in Astravyets, Belarus, and Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline being laid across the Baltic Sea by Russia.
Developed by Lithuania and Sweden, the NordBalt power link operates under a standard scheme since mid-July. The 550 million euro and 453 km cable between Sweden and Lithuania was manufactured by Sweden’s ABB that laid the cable by late 2015, connecting the Lithuanian and Scandinavian electricity markets.
In Pikžirnis’ words, the Lithuanian and the Swedish prime ministers will also discuss the security situation and the Russian actions in Ukraine.
