Lithuania’s conservative propose Hague Tribunal prosecution for civilian attacks in Ukraine

“The international community must do everything in its power not to allow those responsible for crimes against humanity, committed since the start of Putin’s war against Ukraine, to evade justice,” according to the draft resolution on the Volnovakha and Mariupol attacks.

With this resolution, the Lithuanian parliament would commit itself to taking steps for the existing sanctions against Russia to be expanded. “The Russian Federation continues the occupation of part of Ukraine’s territories, is carrying out aggression and supporting terrorism in Ukraine, posing threat to the security of the whole region and the whole continent,” the resolution reads.

It also states that “despite the international community’s concern and warnings, Putin’s war in Ukraine has escalated even more lately and got to the stage when every day civilians are becoming targets of attacks by illegal armed organizations supported by Russia.”

The resolution also calls on the European Commission and other EU member states to draft a wide-ranging assistance plan for Ukraine, including the provision of military assistance.

The document also states that “the so-called Donetsk and Luhansk ‘people’s republics’, supported by the Russian Federation, are criminal terrorist organizations”, and the European Union and NATO countries should “share their intelligence information with and provide military assistance to Ukraine in the wake of Putin’s war with Ukraine.”
