“We received signals about non-transparent operations in issuing of visas. We conducted a probe, we had gone to Almaty. Based on the information, the Attestation Commission of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs decided to recommend that the consul should be recalled, as the diplomat at issue is not suitable for the position of consul general,” Rasa Jakilaitiene, spokeswoman for the foreign minister, told BNS on Friday.
In her words, Jablonskas was recalled on Tuesday last week but still remains in Kazakhstan.
Jakilaitiene said that the ministry had forwarded the information to the State Security Department for an evaluation and, if necessary, an additional check on Jablonskas for fitness to work with and have access to classified information.
The diplomat had been serving as Lithuania’s consul general to Almaty since 2015.
