Motiejūnas, who has recently recovered from a back injury, has conclusively rejected the invitation to join the Lithuanian team for the Summer Olympics in Brazil, following weeks of uncertainty as the Lithuanian player had been hesitant to give his final decision.
“The federation has asked me to inform them now whether I’m joining the team or not. At the moment, there’s only one possible answer. I don’t have a contract and don’t know where I’m playing next. Olympic Games have been my dream, but regretfully I cannot go there with the national team at this moment,” Motiejūnas told 15min.lt on Thursday.
Motiejūnas has recently recovered from a back injury which kept him away from the court for nine months and made him skip the 2015 European championship.
Motiejūnas, who was last contracted by NBA’s Houston Rockets, is currently looking for a club to join and is considered one of NBA’s most desirable free agents.
The Lithuanian national basketball team, which has been in the top-four in every Summer Olympics since 1992, is leaving for South America next week after facing Spain in Kaunas on Monday.
