Lithuania’s NATO ambassador to lead EU mission in Georgia

Lithuanian Minister of Foreign Affairs Linas Linkevičius hailed the appointment as the appreciation of Lithuania’s diplomatic service.

“I am glad that High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini chose Kęstutis Jankauskas, Lithuanian’s ambassador to NATO and a great professional, as head of the EU Monitoring Mission in Georgia. This appointment is the appreciation of Lithuania’s diplomatic service,” the minister said in a statement.

EUMM Georgia is an unarmed civilian monitoring mission. Since October 2008, it has been supporting the stabilization and normalization of the situation, centered on full compliance with the six-point agreement signed by Georgia and Russia in August, 2008.
