Lithuania’s star swimmer Meilutytė wins gold in Stockholm

Meilutytė’s 30.13s result at the international swimming event was the season’s best and secured her gold. The Lithuanian finished almost a second ahead of her closest rivals Sophie Hansson of Sweden (30.98s) and Natalia Ivaneyeva of Russia (31.24s).

However, doping control prevented Meilutytė from taking her place on the podium at the awarding ceremony. The Lithuanian swimmer was taken to test for doping right after the competition and could not return in time for the ceremony.

Meilutytė will be given her gold medal once the test results are in.
