Meilutytė takes gold at European Championships

She took gold in 1.06.17 seconds, well ahead of the rest of the field, on Wednesday evening in London.

“She is just a lot better than the other swimmers. We know how talented she is, we know how many competitions she has won over the last four years. And she is still a step ahead of most of the world’s swimmers,“ said R. Meilutytė‘s coach John Rudd before the European Championship finals.

“But a lot of swimmers did not participate in this championship. Among them – Julia Efimova, Rikke Moller Pedersen, Jennie Johansson. So we can say apart from Rūta, the three strongest Europe‘s breaststroke swimmers did not take part in this championship. This creates an even greater imbalance. However, those three swimmers, if they were here, would fill the space between Rūta and the other swimmes,” said R. Meilutytė‘s coach John Rudd before the European Championship finals.
