Minister of health has no doubts about 20% pay rise for doctors next May

“We have no doubts at the moment and we see no signs that any sort of doubts could emerge,” he told reporters on Thursday.

Prime Minister Saulius Skvernelis and Veryga met earlier in the day with Liutauras Labanauskas, president of the Lithuanian Doctors’ Union, to discuss plans for raising health professionals’ salaries.

The talks now move to the Health Ministry and are joined by the Lithuanian Medical Movement, a newly-established organization of health professionals.

According to Veryga, discussions at the ministry on Thursday will also include plans for increasing salaries in the longer term.

The Doctors’ Union wants the average monthly salary to reach 2,500 euros for doctors and 1,200 for nursing staff in 2020.
