Battalion troops have been trained to use the modernized systems and will try them out during the participation in the first international air defence battalion’s combat shooting exercise in the Czech Republic, the Ministry of National Defence said on Friday.
“Modernized RBS70 air defense systems provide the opportunity to destroy long-distance targets at night, and all functions of the system will step up the battalion’s combat power,” Major Vaidas Simaitis, commander of the Air Defence Battalion, said.
The RBS70 will be able to launched new Bolide missiles, capable of reaching all types of land targets of up to 8km away and air targets of up to 5 km. Troops will also no longer have to use Freon, causing environmental damage, to cool the systems.
