Montenegro’s formin in Lithuania to discuss EU membership, situation in Balkans

Other topics to be discussed include bilateral co-operation, regional security and cooperation within NATO.

Darmanovic is scheduled to meet with Foreign Minister Linas Linkevičius and Defense Minister Raimundas Karoblis, as well as with Viktoras Pranckietis, the speaker of the Seimas, and members of the parliament’s Committee on European Affairs and the Group for Interparliamentary Relations with Montenegro.

Linkevicius paid a visit to Podgorica in December 2017.

Montenegro, which became independent from Serbia in 2006, last June became the 29th member of NATO.

Under its pro-Western leader Milo Djukanovic, Montenegro is now seeking to become a member of the EU. The European Commission said last February that the country could be ready to join the bloc in 2025.
