The new soldiers are from the US 2nd Division 8th Cavalry Unit in Texas will replace the infantry troops of the 173rd Airborne Brigade of the United States Army Europe currently serving in Rukla, the Ministry of National Defence said.
About 75 first soldiers are planned to arrive via the Riga airport this week, while the whole shift will include a total of approximately 160 troops.
Just like the earlier US shift, they will be stationed in Rukla. Their machinery, namely, four Stryker armoured transporters and ten Bradley infantry fighting vehicles – will be transported to the Klaipėda seaport on 1 October and then proceed to Rukla by rail.
In response to the Russian aggression against Ukraine, the US has sent about 600 infantry troops to each of the Baltic states and Poland. Allies have also stepped the guard of the airspace and sea in the Baltic Sea region.
