“There were some minor disagreements a couple of weeks ago, but later the contractor started working in a three-shift mode and hired 20 additional workers. I visited the site today and stood on the platform where concrete is being placed now. That delay has actually been eliminated and there are no more reproaches for the general contractor,” Butkevičius told BNS by phone from Klaipėda.
He added that he would pay another visit to the site late in August.
Early in July, Butkevičius said that construction works were continuing without delays, but productivity was below expectations.
The Independence, a floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU) built for Lithuania’s LNG terminal in Klaipėda, is currently approaching the Suez Channel. The vessel left Hyundai Heavy Industries’ shipyard in Ulsan, South Korea, in mid-May.
Since then, it has sailed the distance of some 14,000 kilometres and still has more than 10,000 to go before reaching Lithuania.
The vessel is expected to arrive in the Lithuanian port in late October or early November. The LNG facility will be launched early in December.
