Norkus should become Lithuania’s ambassador to UK

According to a draft resolution submitted to the government by the Foreign Ministry, Norkus should be appointed as of August 18.

If appointed, Norkus will replace Asta Skaisgirytė. In Lithuania, ambassadors are appointed by the president, with support from the government and the parliament’s Foreign Affairs Committee.

Norkus, 49, started working at the Foreign Ministry in 1991.

He has served at the Defense Ministry, served as ambassador at the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) and to Russia.

Currently, Norkus heads the ministry’s Trans-Atlantic Cooperation and Security Policy Department.

In the Brexit negotiations, Lithuania seeks to ensure rights for its emigrants living in the UK and Britain’s financial contributions to the EU budget. About 200,000 Lithuanians reside in Great Britain.
