“We would like to show the Swedish royal couple not only Lithuania’s economic, energy, scientific, and cultural achievements but also the unique beauty of the Lithuanian seaside, listed as a UNESCO world heritage site,” the president said.
Dalia Grybauskaitė and the Swedish royal couple are visiting the Nagliai Nature Reserve for a walk along a nature trail and the Grey Dunes.
At the Dolphin Therapy Centre, set up in the Lithuanian Sea Museum, the president and the King and Queen of Sweden will be introduced to the principles of this therapy, they will talk to specialists and young patients. The dolphin therapy – unique in Europe – applied in the Centre is intended to help children with disabilities or emotional disorders and their family members. Queen Silvia of Sweden is actively engaged in communicating with young people with disabilities across the world. She is the founder of the World Childhood Foundation which helps children in difficult living conditions.
The president together with King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia will plant black pines near the Lithuanian Sea Museum, which prevent the winds from blowing the soil away and reduce landscape degradation. The pines planted by Dalia Grybauskaite and the Swedish royal couple symbolise human efforts to restore and preserve the nature of the Curonian Spit.
Later on, the president together with the King and Queen of Sweden will visit the Klaipėda University maritime research vessel Mintis. The laboratory set up in this vessel conducts research on seabed, water pollution and marine resources. It is the only laboratory of its kind in the Baltic countries.
The president and the Swedish royal couple will also visit the converter station of the Lithuanian-Swedish power link Nord Balt and see the exposition of archaeological findings and amber inclusions at the Tiškevičiai Palace in Palanga.
The Swedish royal couple will bid farewell to the president in Palanga, ending a three-day state visit in Lithuania.
