Presidential advisor: Lithuania needs energy strategy that covers climate change

“Lithuania truly lacks a solid energy strategy – it should unite climate change and energy objectives. These areas have been separated, but a lot could be achieved if they were merged and Lithuania could take the leading positions once again,” the chief advisor said at the Lithuanian energy conference on Wednesday.

According to her, Lithuania should also evaluate whether it sees itself only as a member of the Baltic or rather a wider energy market, and assess carbon price trends in this context.

“I would list curbing monopolies as a future goal, especially in the heating sector, where the process has started but has not been completed yet. Of course the remaining strategic projects have to be implemented,” Kaminskaitė-Salters named the priorities.

She added that the state should also give more powers to regulating bodies and find a complex solution to the issue of waste use for energy, as well as strengthen the already operating biofuel market.
