Prime Minister Butkevičius: Proposals for ORLEN Lietuva still on the table

He says that the government put forward support proposals for ORLEN Lietuva as soon the first signs of financial difficulties appeared.

“Though the government has no possibility to make a direct impact on commercial processes within the company, we immediately expressed our support for the continuation of their activities, once ORLEN Lietuva encountered difficulties.

“On 6 May 2014, I personally met with the leadership of the company and assured that the government was ready to cooperate in dealing with their issues, we discussed possible solutions to their problems. However, so far there has been little initiative to solve the issues from ORLEN Lietuva itself,” says Butkevičius.

According to the prime minister, the meetings with the leadership of ORLEN Lietuva were meant to discuss a new product pipeline to Klaipėda seaport. Butkevičius expressed support for the project, as it would allow increasing the efficiency of the company’s logistics.

In addition, Butkevičius had also suggested ORLEN Lietuva used opportunities to receive financing from EU funds to develop projects related to innovation, enhancement of human potential, development.

The prime minister assured that if the company required consultation, training or additional information, it would be provided with all available assistance from the government.
