Putin is in self-imposed isolation among global leaders, Lithuanian president’s adviser says

“Russian president Vladimir Putin‘s early departure, as well as very straightforward public comments of some G20 leaders, reflected global leaders’ unity over the situation in Ukraine. It’s clear that the Russian president is holding a self-isolating position that leads nowhere, and we must recognize that ignoring the Minsk agreement and Russia’s failure to fulfil the requirements are the major challenge for the solution to the Ukrainian conflict,” Neliupšienė told the Žinių Radijas news radio on Tuesday morning.

In her words, pressure on Putin’s regime is growing not only in the West but also in other parts of the world.

“The pressure and Russia’s isolation is necessary to make Russia return to the negotiating table and start constructively implementing the agreement it signed itself. (…) It doesn’t seem that Europe, NATO and developed countries on the whole plan to make any concessions, especially as Russia still rattles the sabre in Ukraine,” the presidential adviser said.
