Renovation of embassy in Rome to cost Lithuania over EUR 2 mln – daily

The Seimas Committee on Foreign Affairs is asking the government to allocate an additional 760,000 euros in next year’s budget for the embassy’s renovation.

The committee says that the money is needed to refurbish the premises in Palazzo Blumenstihl, which the Italian government provided to Lithuania for use for 99 years free of charge after the country agreed to drop its claim on the historic Villa Lituania building.

It is expected that the premises will be adapted for use by the embassy in 2019.

“A construction work contract was signed on Oct. 27 this year. The contractor committed itself to completing the work within 18 months,” the ministry said, adding that the value of the contract is 2.235 million euros.
