Medvedev said he had given orders for the Russian food embargo to be extended until the end of 2017.
“Our producers have said on several occasions that they want the food embargo on agrarian goods and farm produce from those countries that imposed or joined sanctions against Russia to remain in place. I want to say that I have given instructions to draft proposals on extending the response measures not by one year, but until the end of 2017,” he said.
In August 2014, the Russian government put a one-year embargo on imports of most food products from the EU, the US, Australia, Canada and Norway in response to the sanctions these countries imposed on Russia for its military aggression in Ukraine.
In 2015, the embargo was extended until August 5, 2016.
