Der Spiegel magazine reports that a message from the German Chancellor’s Office stated that the “G8 is dead”.
Russia has been excluded from the G7 group (which went by the name of G8 with Russia in it) since 2014 when Moscow annexed Ukraine’s Crimean Peninsula.
There are no signs that Russia would live up to conditions for its return, Der Spiegel reports.
Moreover, the United States strongly oppose inviting Russia back to the group.
The G7 currently consists of the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany, Japan, France, Canada and Italy.
