Three of the four interceptions completed last week were triggered off by a Russian IL-20 electronic reconnaissance aircraft.
Two of the IL-20 flights in the international airspace were carried out in accordance with a pre-filed flight plan, with switched-off onboard transponder and in communication with air traffic control centers, while the third flight was conducted without a flight plan, with switched-off onboard transponder, and without maintaining radio communication with air traffic control centers.
The fourth interception during the period concerned a Russian SU-27 fighter aircraft and an AN-26 transport aircraft, both flying without having pre-filed flight plans and without using onboard transponders but in communication with air traffic control centers.
