The sanction is to be announced within the next few days and will remain in place for a year.

The Lithuanian Radio and Television Commission (LRTK) found that NTV Mir Lithuania’s program Emergency, broadcast on Apr.16, incited hatred and hostility toward the Baltic countries, particularly Lithuania and Latvia.

The LRTK has in the past repeatedly imposed temporary restrictions on broadcasts by the UK-registered Baltic Media Alliance Ltd, which owns the Russian-language channels Ren TV Baltic, First Baltic Channel (PBK) and NTV Mir Lithuania.

Following a request from the Lithuanian watchdog, the UK communications regulator OFCOM has also found certain violations.

A Vilnius court last week dismissed an appeal filed by almost 30 Lithuanian re-broadcasters against the media watchdog’s decision to temporarily ban only Russia-produced content from NTV Mir Lithuania in 2015.
