Second quarantine from Saturday

After the meeting of the government’s COVID-19 response committee, Prime Minister Saulius Skvernelis said: “It will be proposed tomorrow that the government introduce a nationwide quarantine at the end of the week, most probably from midnight on Saturday”.

Prime Minister Saulius Skvernelis assessed the spread of coronavirus in Lithuania. Here’s what he wrote on his Facebook page. “It looks like in the near future we will have to take a break from life as usual. A group of doctors and scientists, assembled by us, will meet on Tuesday to present concrete proposals for new measures. After that, a meeting of the COVID-19 committee will immediately take place, at which I will propose to the Government to expand and strengthen quarantine in the “red” municipalities, as well as to introduce a quarantine regime in the “yellow” municipalities. From Saturday, November 7, the Red Zone restrictions will apply to all Lithuania.  In addition to that:

  • No restrictions will be placed on kindergartens and primary schools, leaving it up to parents to decide. 
  • High school students will have half of their lessons at school and half online. 
  • Universities will be asked to switch to all-remote teaching and learning where possible. 
  • Restaurants, bars and cafes will only be allowed to provide take-away services.
  • Retail stores and pharmacies will not be closed but will have to ensure that social distancing is maintained.  
  • Attendance limits on parties will be set and up to ten people, only the closest relatives, will be allowed to attend weddings and funerals. 
  • Restrictions on social contacts will be tightened, allowing a maximum of ten people from two households to meet together.  
  • Movement between cities and towns will not be restricted, but will not be recommended either. 
  • All public services at churches will be suspended. 
  • Hairdressers and beauty salons will be allowed to operate without major restrictions as long as they follow coronavirus safety guidelines.
  • Gyms, pools, SPA centres, museums, cinemas and theatres will be closed.
  • Libraries will be able to operate remotely.
  • No spectators will be permitted at sporting events.
