Seimas passes resolution to step up diplomacy, restore ties with Poland

By the document, the parliament “called for restoration of sustainable parliamentary cooperation with Poland, which is vital for coordination of positions on regional security and elimination of deep-rooted obstacles for improvement of bilateral relations based on mutual respect and understanding.”

Initiated by members of the parliamentary committees of Foreign Affairs and European Affairs, the document was supported by 76 of Lithuania’s 141 parliamentarians, with no one against and three abstentions.

The resolution also proposes stepping up the cooperation among countries of the Baltic Sea region (NBP9), declaring support to Ukraine, Georgia and Moldova, calling for a focus on Germany to help facilitate creation of the Germany-led NATO battalion in Lithuania and “preserve the current deterrence policy towards Russia,” as well declares the need to consolidate direct work with the US Congress.
