The meeting of the Political Directors of the initiative of the Enhanced Partnership in Northern Europe (e-PINE) took place in Washington, D.C., 3-5 November, the Lithuanian MFA said.
“In the face of Russia’s increasing aggression it is especially important to strengthen the interaction between the USA, the Baltic and Nordic countries in the field of regional security,” noted Kačinskas.
E-PINE representatives also held meetings with Charles Kupchan, the White House’s Senior Director for European Affairs, officials of the US Department of State, and participated in a discussion at the Centre for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS).
The meetings focused on transatlantic co-operation, closer e-PINE co-operation in the field of security, the EU-US negotiations on a Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP). The officials agreed to include the representatives of Ministries of National Defence in the e-PINE format.
Estonia, which co-ordinates the e-PINE activities this year, has also organised a political directors’ meeting in Kiev and a high-level cyber security experts’ meeting in Tallinn.
