Support for Lithuania’s ruling Social Democrats continues to plummet – poll

If elections were held next Sunday, the Social Democrats would secure 15.7% of the vote, down from 21.2% in March and 23% in February. They are still the most popular party in Lithuania in the poll conducted by Vilmorus.

However, the popularity of the Peasant and Green Union has jumped after including the popular former interior minister, Saulius Skvernelis, on its candidate list for the upcoming general election, making it Lithuania’s second most popular party.

The Peasant and Green Union’s support rose to 11.1% up from 7.1% in March, catapulting the party from being the sixth most popular party in the state to second place. The Labour Party also say its support increase slightly to 7.7%, up from 6.8% in March.

In third place, The Liberal Party’s support dropped to 9.6% (from 10.4% in March), while the Social Democrat’s coalition partner, the Order and Justice party’s support also fell to 8.4% from 7.7%

Support for the Conservatives, the Homeland Union – Lithuanian Christian Democrats fell nearly two points in April to 8% from 10.2% in March. The Electoral Action of Poles in Lithuania support fell to 2.5% (3.2 pct).
