Juozas Bernotas, 27, will race in the RS:X event (windsurfing discipline).
Bernotas will hope to gain as much as possible ranking points in the first 12 races in order to qualify for the medal race.
The Lithuanian sailor took the 12th place in London Olympics and will try to improve his positions in Rio.
In the 2014 World Championships, Bertonas was 23rd. In the 2014 World Cup that took place in Melbourne, Australia, the Lithuanian won gold.
Besides Bertonas, Lithuania will have a representation in the women’s laser radial event. Olympic medalist Gintarė Scheidt (Volungevičiūtė) will hope to repeat and to improve on her best Olympic achievement.
In 2008 Beijing Olympic Games, Scheidt won the silver medal. In London four years later, the Lithuanian sailor finished sixth, but that same year she won the World Championships that took place in Boltenhagen, Germany.
Scheidt also won bronze in the 2010 European Championships that took place in Tallinn, Estonia, and silver in 2006 European Championships in Riccione, Italy.
Scheidt will compete in 10 races and will try to qualify for the race medal. The Lithuanian hopes her experience will give her an edge over her younger competitors, leading her to the podium at the end of the medal race.
