Third commercial LNG shipment on its way to Lithuania

The Arctic Voyager, a gas tanker sailing under the Bahamas flag, is expected to arrive in the port of Klaipėda on Thursday, 30 April, according to Indrė Milinienė, spokeswoman for Klaipėdos Nafta (Klaipėda Oil).

The ship will deliver 140,000 cubic meters of LNG, an equivalent to around 84 million cubic meters of natural gas.

According to the vessel positions tracking website marinetraffic.com, the tanker is currently sailing near the northern coast of Norway.

The first commercial LNG shipment arrived in Klaipėda in late December. The Maltese-flagged Arctic Aurora then delivered around 140,000 cubic meters of LNG from Norway’s Statoil.

The Golar Seal in late February delivered the second shipment of 140,000 cubic meters of LNG.

Six to seven gas tankers are to deliver a total of 540 million cubic meters of Statoil gas this year. Lithuania also has 12 master trade agreements to buy gas on the spot market if there is a higher demand.

The LNG facility was officially launched on 3 December and started actually supplying gas to the grid in January. The terminal will operate at a capacity of 1 billion cubic meters of gas in its first year of operation, to be increased to some 4 billion cubic meters in the future.
