“They came on a bus themselves and they are in Lithuania already,” Lithuanian Interior Vice-Minister Elvinas Jankevičius told BNS.
A father with his daughter and another member of the family from Donetsk will be temporarily housed in Rukla.
The first Ukrainian family of Lithuanian descent – a woman who left Lithuania 30 years ago, her daughter, son-in-law and their three children – came to Lithuania from war-hit eastern Ukraine two weeks ago.
Earlier this week, the second family – a father, mother and their son – came by car to Lithuania and are also temporarily staying at the Rukla-based Foreigners’ Registration Centre. All three families will be later moved to Vilnius.
According to the latest data provided by the Foreign Ministry, about 50 Ukrainians and their family members of Lithuanian origin have declared willingness to resettle to Lithuania.
The government’s decision to settle Ukrainians of Lithuanian origin from Donetsk and Luhansk and the Russian-annexed Crimea region was made in late July.
A total of about 10,000 persons of Lithuanian origin are currently in Ukraine, in addition to about 1,500 Lithuanian citizens who are officially registered there.
