“Meetings will focus on the security situation in the region, the establishment of integration units (command centers) of NATO forces in Lithuania and other Eastern European countries, NATO’s Very High Readiness Joint Task Force, units of NATO’s land and air forces rotated in Lithuania, the role of NATO’s Multinational Corps Northeast in NATO’s command and control structure,” Captain Mindaugas Neimontas, spokesman for the Lithuanian chief of defense, told BNS.
Lithuania hopes a Vilnius-based international command center that will consist of up to 50 officers from Lithuania and allied countries will start operating as early as this summer. Such command centers in the Baltic states, Poland, Bulgaria and Romania are being established in response of Russia’s actions in Ukraine.
