Ukraine’s new prime minister receives Lithuanian foreign minister’s support

“There is a start, everyone will await for tasks now. [His] statements signal an adequate understanding of the situation – corruption, management of state-run companies, efficiency, compliance to IMF requirements and less populism. These are very correct statements, it is now time to translate them into reality. This is what everyone expects and awaits,” Linkevičius told BNS, commenting on Ukraine’s new PM.

He welcomed the new Ukrainian Cabinet, which has put an end to “a period of uncertainty” and started “a new important phase.” Groysman, the new prime minister, is a “business-like, young and energetic person” and enjoys political support, said Linkevičius.

In his words, one of the new government’s important tasks in fighting corruption is proceeding with the privatization of state-run companies that are known to feature the highest degree of corruption.

“Their success will be visible in the results. Ukraine recently founded a specialized prosecutor’s office to fight corruption, an agency,” Linkevičius added.
