US heavy combat equipment to be brought to Lithuania’s Gaižiūnai

The equipment will include 8 STRYKER armoured personnel carriers, 8 BRADLEY fighting infantry vehicles, 4 HMMWV all-terrain vehicles, 1 M88 heavy technical service armoured vehicle, 2 refuelling trucks, and other technical service vehicles and personnel carriers.

All in all, the new American rotation will include around 160 troops from 1st Brigade, 1st Cavalry Division, replacing the outgoing US rotation.

Company-size US contingents have been deployed in Lithuania, other Baltic states and Poland on a rotation basis since April in response to Russia’s actions in Ukraine.

In the future, Lithuanian and American troops will be joined by a third rotation-based company of troops from European countries, and the three companies would become the basis for an international battalion.
