Vilniaus Energija fined €600,000 by regulator

The commission has also put a requirement on the company to eliminate all violations within five days but the company is contesting the €600,000 fine in the courts and said the demands put on it were unrealistic.

The commission said that Vilniaus energija was intentionally delaying the audit process which prevented the commission from setting basic heating prices for the new 3-5 year period.

However, Vilniaus Energija president Linas Samuolis said: “we have provided as much of the information exclusively requested from Vilniaus Energija as we had the time to collect working at full capacity. Unfortunately, it is impossible to collect all the data with the speed requested by the Commission, it is simply impossible, we are not superhuman.”

Samuolis said the company had been fined after being presented with unrealistic demands by the Commission. According to the company, it managed to complete 2 out of 3 the requested tables containing a large amount of information covering a three-year performance period. The company claimed this demand was exclusively placed on Vilniaus Energija this October, but not on other heat suppliers.

UAB Vilniaus Energija audit had to be completed by December 31, 2015, but without the necessary data and information, the audit will now continue into 2016. The company went to court yesterday to challenge the fine.
