The Chief Institutional Ethics Commission (VTEK) said on Wednesday it received information that Rekst might have been involved in the hiring process which gave the position to her niece Liucina Kotlovska.
Rekst was re-elected as the mayor of Vilnius District last year. Her niece was subsequently appointed the chief of administration for the second time.
VTEK already investigated Rekst for conflict of interests in 2012 and ruled she broke the law by hiring her niece to run the municipality’s administration.
Rekst was also involved in setting the salary and bonuses for Kotlovska, delegating her to various municipal commissions, and sending her on work trips abroad, trainings, and seminars.
