The European Commission is planning to report on its position regarding visa liberalisation with Georgia and Ukraine on 15 December.
“We hope that this will form the basis to launch the visa-free regime in the first half of 2016,” said Grybauskaitė during a joint press conference with Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko in Vilnius. The Lithuanian leader notes that Lithuania is going to support Kiev’s efforts to establish the visa-free regime with the EU.
In his turn, President Poroshenko noted that Lithuania has always been his country’s advocate in the EU and other international organisations. He also stressed that Ukraine was ready to implement all requirements of the EU in its fight against corruption.
“European integration is the idea that unites our country. And I really hope that in two weeks the European Commission will make this historical decision,” the Ukrainian leader said.
