On their free time, the volunteers interact with visitors to the city, hoping to assist them and leave a good impression about Lithuania.
For the volunteers, this is a great way to spend the summer, to meet new people and improve their foreign language skills, they say.
“I like talking to people and I’d like to speak English,” says Giedrius Mickevičius, one of the volunteers. “It is great fun, since people who come to Vilnius from other countries are usually in good spirits and I enjoy helping them out.”
Several dozen volunteers, mostly school and university students, are working near the most popular tourist sites in Vilnius and offering assistance or city maps to visitors.
In June this year, Vilnius tourist information centres have been visited by more than 10,000 visitors.
