Leškevičius started work at the Lithuanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) in 1996 as an advisor to the foreign minister. He later worked in and headed a number of the MFA’s departments and Lithuania’s foreign representations. In 2011-2012 he was the MFA’s director of policy, while in 2012-2014 a deputy minister of foreign affairs.
