Žalgiris managed to prevent from Maccabi to score, but unfortunately for them, they also failed to score by themselves. Jeremy Pargo was the first to break the Lithuanian defense, but Milaknis slotted in two free throws and kept Žalgiris in the business. Pargo and Randle worried to secure a victory despite Milaknis’s three point shot. Žalgiris won the quarter 18:13, but it was not enough, and Maccabi secured the victory 79:72

Žalgiris head coach Gintaras Krapikas:

“First of all congratulations to Maccabi for the victory. We started the game too soft and it is not good to open games in this way, especially not such important game and not in Tel Aviv. We did a few simple tournovers an you cannot do such a mistakes against Maccabi. In the last quarter we had chances to close the game, but we were not able to do it and that is why we lost the game. We have three more important games in our home against Barcelona, Real and the Red Star and we will do our best in order to secure the victories there.”

Maccabi head coach Guy Goodes:

“We got a very important win today, not easy one against a team that came to win. Our performance in the match was far from our best. I think that we gave a lot of chances on defense. The fourth quarter was not good for us offensively. But also these are the sort of games that we need to play and to get a victory. Of course, I would like to improve our game because we will have more difficult matches. But now we need one victory to get to the playoffs. But if we want to get to where we want to, we need all the players to be focused. I know we can play better and we have a lot of work to do.”

The next match for the Lithuanians will be crucial against Barcelona, Real Madrid and the Red Star Belgrade. The first two will be a big challenge, even in Žalgirio Arena, but with the crowd support everything is possible.
