Despite holding an early points advantage over its Catalonian rivals in the match’s opening quarter, the Lithuanian team was narrowly defeated by the end.
As a result, Žalgiris also lost its chance to make it into the top-8 of the Euroleague playoffs.
FC Barcelona maintained its run of 13 consecutive wins, and its most recent victory was its 18th against Žalgiris Kaunas.
Following the match, Žalgiris‘ coach Gintaras Krapikas was the first to congratulate FC Barcelona. “Congratulations to Coach Pascual and his team,” said Krapikas. “We expected that they would play a serious and concentrated game and that’s how it went. They used their height advantage and that hurt us a lot.
“I want to thank our guys because they fought till the very end.”
Pleased with his team’s 13th consecutive win, Barcelona’s head coach Xavi Pascual paid tribute to the quality of the game played by Žalgiris. “I would like to begin by congratulating Žalgiris. We played well against a team that also had a good game and forced us to give our best to win. It is always a pleasure to play in Lithuania and [especially on local ground], with so many fans.”
Žalgiris’ highest scorer was James Anderson on 24 points, while Barcelona’s biggest hitter was Alex Abrines on 16.
