The Syrians have been relocated from refugee camps in Greece.
“Twelve people – two families – have come from Greece,” Deputy Interior Minister Justas Pankauskas told BNS.
In the initial phase of their integration, the migrants will spend several months at the Rukla Refugee Reception Centre in central Lithuania. During the time, the Migration Department will process their asylum applications and should grant them refugee status.
One of the two families includes three young children, their mother, who worked as a music teacher back in Syria, and their father who worked in private business. The other family includes five children of various ages, their father, a farmer, and their mother, a housewife.
Lithuania has until now taken in 62 of the 1,105 refugees it has pledged to accept within two years, by September 2017.
