2 refugees from Eritrea transferred to Lithuania under EU program

The Migration Department said on Wednesday that the two persons had arrived from refugee camps in Italy.

By now, Lithuania has relocated 416 persons from Italy, Greece and Turkey, however, the majority of them have already left Lithuania.

The refugees are resettled to Lithuania under the 2015 decision to distribute 160,000 refugees among member-states of the community. After it expired in September, EU countries decided to extend it.

Under the mechanism, Lithuania has committed itself to receiving 1,105 refugees, mainly from countries, such as Syria and Iraq.
