3 cases of Tetanus reported in Lithuania this year

Among the infected were two females and a male, all over the age of 60. They were all hospitalized. One of the cases was registered in Kaunas and two in Vilnius. None of them had tetanus vaccination.

Last year, two people were infected with tetanus in Lithuania, one of them died. Over the past decade (2005-2015), 20 cases of tetanus were diagnosed in Lithuania, seven of them were lethal.

Tetanus is an infectious disease caused by bacteria that can multiply without oxygen, and its spores are highly resistant to external factors, therefore, can remain viable for periods between a few months to a few years.
