It is forecast that the shortage of skilled IT professionals in Lithuania will reach 10,000 by 2020, while in Europe there will be up to 750,000 unfilled vacancies for IT specialists by the end of the decade.
Lithuania still lags far behind other European countries in terms of trained technology professionals in the workforce with, in 2015, IT specialists accounting for only 1.7% of the total workforce.
Every year Lithuania‘s IT services sector creates up to 2,000 new jobs, but there are just not enough skilled workers on the market to fill these positions. As a result, salaries of IT professionals are growing fastest in the Lithuanian labour market – rising about 8-9% annually.
The IT sector has also been one of the leaders in creating value-added growth in the Lithuanian economy in the period of 2008-2014, according to the Lithuanian Department of Statistics.
