A senior executive of Latvian Railways resigns after arrest in Lithuania on Polish warrant

“The Latvian national was detained in Lithuania last week under a European arrest warrant issued by Poland. He is currently subject to measures of restraint to ensure that he stays in Lithuania,” Elena Martinonienė, spokeswoman for the Lithuanian Prosecutor General’s Office, told BNS on Wednesday.

She said that the European arrest warrant execution procedure had been launched.

Neither Lithuanian law-enforcement officials nor the Latvian himself would comment on what he is suspected of.

Lusis had headed LDZ Logistics since September 2016.

The Latvian said on Wednesday that he cooperated with Lithuanian law-enforcement officials and that the detention had nothing to do with his job at Latvian Railways.

“I cooperate with Lithuanian officials. My lawyer and I have agreed that I will not comment on the details of the process,” the man told the news agency LETA.

“But I confirm once again that this situation is not related to my work at Latvian Railways. This is concerns my work at a company that has not worked for several years now,” he said.

Lusis said that he resigned so as not to harm the reputation of LDZ Logistics.
